Peter Brown Today

One of the posters asked after Peter Brown today, and whether he is still alive.  I'm pleased to be able to report that he is very much alive and well and living in a forest in Lincolnshire.  He still dabbles in pottery and has passed his passion for clay on to some of his grandchildren.  He has many other irons in the fire these days, and shows no sign of aging beyond the 90-odd years he has always been.  Unfortunately, he doesn't make the frog mugs any more, even for his family...

  1. I am the very proud owner of fifteen Peter Brown pieces, including jugs and a frog mug.I bought the first one at the Three Counties Show in the early 70's.We visited the Snake Pottery at Upper Cam.I admired him for the moral stand he made over taxes for armaments.I hope he didn't suffer on account of it.I would like to get hold of a copy of his surreal novel.Chas Eden,Malvern

    1. You've probably found a copy by now, but if you google it you will see that it has recently been reprinted. He is a lovely man, & if you ever watch a historical programme on TV with an alchemist's laboratory you will almost certainly see him!

    2. Smallcreep's Day was re-published in 2008 and is readily available - as good as ever!

  2. Hi,

I have a couple of the frog tankards that your father made. I collect studio ceramics (and sell bits too). I've picked up two or three of them over the last few years but could never sell them on. They are wonderful things and so I kept them. I have a large casserole pot as well somewhere. Picked up from boot sales, charity shop, antique places etc. I’m glad to hear he’s still alive and potting from time to time. He sounds like a very interesting man indeed. And I agree Beer is Best :D – James H

  3. Seeing images of Peter Brown's pottery makes something make sense. The chess trophy that was competed for at my primary school was crafted by him. It was brought in by his daughter Judith and when I recall its appearance it had his stamp all over it.
